Inside the High Concrete Academy

HCA

Building long-term success at High Concrete Group starts with people. When team members feel confident, supported, and connected to their work, it shows up in safety, quality, and consistency across the plant floor. That belief is what led to the creation of the High Concrete Academy. Launched in May 2025 at our Denver, PA, plant, the Academy was designed to help new hires build confidence early while gaining a clear understanding of what success looks like at High Concrete Group. By combining hands-on learning with real-world application, the program supports not just day-one readiness, but long-term career growth and companywide alignment.

At its core, the Academy focuses on the three P’s that define our work every day: the Projects we deliver, the Products we manufacture, and the Processes that guide safe, consistent, high-quality precast production. Establishing these expectations early helps new team members transition smoothly from onboarding into productive, on-the-job training.

The Academy curriculum begins with fundamentals, including how to properly use a tape measure and a review of math skills used in the plant to support success in daily work. Training then expands into key areas of precast concrete production, including:

  • Forming
  • Set up
  • Cage fabrication
  • Pouring
  • Finishing
  • Product removal

Classroom Learning

Each Academy class runs for two weeks and blends classroom learning with hands-on training in a mock production environment. This learn-by-doing approach gives participants the opportunity to practice safe, efficient work habits and build confidence before fully stepping into live production.

One of the most impactful parts of the High Concrete Academy is who leads it. Classes are taught by experienced team members, creating a peer-to-peer learning environment that encourages collaboration and shared understanding. To support accessibility and inclusion, bilingual classes are also offered for English- and Spanish-speaking participants. Most new hires attend the Academy within their first two months, reinforcing High Concrete Group’s commitment to setting employees up for success from the start.

Mock Production

Learning doesn’t stop at the plant floor. After completing the classroom portion, participants take part in a jobsite tour to see how the products they help create are used in the field. For many, this experience connects daily tasks to the bigger picture and reinforces how individual roles contribute to the finished structure.

Since launching in Denver, PA, High Concrete Academy has gained momentum through strong participation and successful graduates. Operations leadership is currently discussing the timing and structure of the High Concrete Academy for rollout to our Springboro, OH, plant. By investing in hands-on learning, peer instruction, and real-world connections, the Academy is helping to create companywide alignment, shared standards, and long-term career pathways that support both our team members and the future of High Concrete Group.
